Giving FAQs
We give tithes and offerings because God instructs us to give (2 Corinthians 9:6-8, Luke 6:38) and we are blessed when we give (Acts 20:35). Giving is a principle that is taught throughout the entire Bible. When we tithe and give, we are expressing worship in a tangible way by putting God first in our lives, all while allowing us to be a part of the most important work in life that is spreading the Gospel. Through the giving of tithes and offering, we receive funding to operate as a church. Giving is meant to be a joyful expression of thanks to God from the heart, not a legalistic obligation.
The word "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing is giving the first ten percent of our income back to God (Malachi 3:10). The Bible says that everything we have comes from Him (Psalm 24:1), so tithing is actually returning to God what belongs to Him. When we tithe, we are putting God first in our lives and trusting Him to provide for all of our needs. An offering is a money or gift brought to God beyond our tithes.
